Performances at Liberty Hall postponed due to plumbing | Local News

Upcoming performances will go on at Liberty Hall in downtown Tyler after essential plumbing repairs were made.

On Oct. 30, the city confirmed all performances at Liberty Hall were canceled for at least two weeks, or until further notice, as crews worked repair plumbing issues at the venue, located at 103 E. Erwin St.

The City of Tyler said the venue’s plumbing issues forced the city to cancel, postpone or reschedule multiple shows. The necessary repairs have been made as of Monday afternoon, and upcoming performances are still on track to be held at the venue.

A much-anticipated Candlelight Concert set for Oct. 30 was postponed and rescheduled. According to organizer Fever Up, another show is coming up at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21 at the theater.

The city noted since the concert is a rental event, it was Fever Up’s responsibility to inform ticket holders of any changes, according to City Of Tyler Public Information Officer Adriana Rodriguez.

Many learned about that particular postponement through Facebook and a sign on Liberty Hall’s door rather than direct communication from Fever Up.

Rodriguez noted that while the city communicated with someone at Fever Up, that information may not have been effectively relayed to everyone internally.

The Candlelight Concert is a unique musical experience where live performances are illuminated by candlelight, creating an intimate atmosphere. The rescheduled event is set to feature a tribute to Coldplay.

Liberty Hall had to also postpone the annual “Rocky Horror Picture Show” performance, which was scheduled for Oct. 25 and 26, due to the same plumbing issues. Patrons were refunded and new show dates are expected to be announced as soon as possible, the city stated. The city said in a Facebook comment this week that it is working with the cast for a spring date.

A show featuring Jimmy Fortune, who was set to perform in concert at the theater on Oct. 27, was moved to another venue, Landmark Baptist Church. Similarly, an Oct. 29 performance “The Paul Stark Seeley Story” was moved to First Presbyterian Church.

The next performance on Liberty Hall’s schedule is set for 7 p.m. Nov. 13, when John Conlee is set to take the stage for a live performance.

Liberty Hall is a downtown theater operated by the City of Tyler. According to its website, the venue offers live music, comedy and revivals of classic films for the East Texas region. First opening in 1930, it was refurbished in 2011 in an art deco style and seats approximately 300 people.

“The mission of Liberty Hall is to create a stimulating arts and entertainment experience that integrates the arts into the downtown’s social, economic and community fabric,” the theater states on its website. “We strive to provide diverse opportunities for entertainment, film, theater, comedy and music.”
