About half a dozen years ago, Terry Gorges had to make repairs to some cracks in his patio.
He did such a nice job, a friend had him help with a sidewalk.
“We started from there,” Gorges said of turning his work into a business.
He did some investigating and decided to become a franchised Sundeck dealer for Kansas.
He said the Dallas-area company offered him training and a lot of support.
Now, Sundek of Wichita is about to have its first showroom in Ridgeport, a center at 3221 N. Ridge Road, which is a bit north of 29th Street North.
Sundek offers interior and exterior floor coatings.
“It’s a lot of concrete overlays,” Gorges said. “It adds design and color to your concrete.”
In most cases, he said he can refurbish old concrete.
“You can repair cracks, to a limit, obviously,” he said. “You can implement them into a design that people cannot see them.”
Sundek has all kinds of designs, such as natural stone or tile.
“We are endless with the design and color options that we have,” Gorges said.
Prices vary according to size and the shape of existing concrete.
“I always tell people . . . let me come out there and take a look, and then I can give you a ballpark.”
He also accepts photos and tries to give estimates off of them as well.
Sundek offers residential and commercial work. For instance, it adds logos to flooring for schools. It’s also certified to do pickleball, tennis and sports courts.
Pool decks are a big focus for Sundek. It also does patios and garage and basement floors.
“We have unique basement finishes now,” Gorges said.
The business should be in its new space later this month.
Brothers Brian and Paul Suellentrop own the center, which Brian Suellentrop called a flex building. There are overhead doors on the backs of the spaces, which can be used for retail, office, warehouse space or light industrial uses.
Sundek will be in 2,000 square feet. There’s another space available with 2,100 square feet, and there’s another 8,500 square feet left to lease that also can be split into four spaces of about 2,000 square feet each.
