A Greensboro couple calls WFMY News 2 after flooring job takes four months

Although the Burtons were told the floor installation would take a few days, it ended up taking more than a few months.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Donald and Rossana Burton were so excited after buying their new home in High Point. The couple loved the single-story ranch-style layout, which included a giant sunroom facing the backyard.

“We love our home, we really do,” said Rosanna Burton.

After moving in, decorating the home, and putting things in their proper place, the couple started to enjoy the home when the water heater broke.

“It damaged the floors, so we had to have them replaced,” Burton said.

The couple selected the new hardwood floors and tile and hired a company to install them. The job should have taken about two to three days, but it took a lot longer.

“We were sleeping on air mattresses because the bed was still (not) down and all of our furniture and belongings we had to put in storage bins,” Burton said.

The problems seem to go on and on. The company was unable to get the proper flooring installed and then there were issues with getting the items wanted in stock and damage that occurred when installing some parts. Burton called the company multiple times to try and get the issues resolved without much success.

“It was just one story (after) the next, we kept going back making phone calls and emailing the floor company,” Burton said.

After about four months of delays, Burton and her husband called WFMY News 2 for assistance. We immediately contacted the flooring company and asked to speak with a corporate staff member.

“It’s been very traumatic. It’s been very painful. I’ve had to take days off from my job to make sure that we’re here,” Burton said.

Once we contacted the flooring company, the work seemed to speed up quite a bit. Within a couple of weeks, the project was completed, and the company decided to provide Burton with a sizeable refund for their troubles.

“We’re very grateful for (News 2) coming out, helping us, and speaking on our behalf with the flooring company,” Burton said.

The floors look great and the Burtons are now able to finally enjoy the home and sleep in their bed.
