If you have a passion for gardening, blasting some Pantera might be just what you need.
According to the newly published First Saturday Lime Study that did some digging and investigated the correlation between music, gardening and homesteading, Pantera seems to be one of the more popular acts to listen to while gardening.
As a result, Pantera scored the spot as the second most gardening playlists that can be found on Spotify, with the first being alternative/indie rock artist Hozier.
So, does this mean gardeners tend to have their greenest thumb while listening to the heavy metal band?
Well, according to the study, data was gathered on 76,834 songs that appeared on gardening and homesteading playlists on Spotify. From there, researchers categorized top genres, artists and songs that people were listening to while gardening and homesteading.
Additionally, 1,000 Americans were surveyed to explore how music impacted their gardening and homesteading habits. Of those who responded, 63 percent garden, while two percent homesteaded. 12 percent participate in both activities while 23 percent of those surveyed did neither.
The study showed that metal actually placed a little below the middle of the bunch regarding its appearance on gardening playlists. Of all genres, they placed seventh overall, despite rock placing third.
Considering what artists are appearing on the gardening playlists on Spotify, Hozier dominated the list, where the singer has two song in the top 10 of all gardening playlists, including the most included hit single, “Too Sweet.”
Even though Pantera didn’t have a song inside the Top 10, the band came out second overall in the gardening playlist mentions.
Judging from the data, it’s safe to assume listening to music is beneficial for gardeners and homesteading, as the survey revealed that 78 percent of people believe listening to music while participating in these activities makes it more enjoyable.
That’s because some people, 52 percent of respondents to be exact, says that it reduces stress. Also, 34 percent of respondents mentioned that music motivated longer work sessions.
But taking in heavy metal also has its cons to too, as 20 percent of those listening to metal while gardening admitted to being more on the aggressive side and accidentally killing their plants.
When it comes to what people are listening to while gardening, rock appears to be the most popular genre, as rock music appeared on 44 percent of the playlists. Artists who’ve made the cut include Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac and The Beatles.
Metal was toward the bottom of the list as only 10 percent of playlists had metal included. In addition to Pantera, the two other top metal bands for gardening playlists includes Sepultura and Havoc.
Where alternative rock artists are considered, the Lumineers, The Garden and Dominic Fike scored top three while Hozier, Mac Demarco and The Garden grabbed the top spot for the indie rock representation.
So, the next time you’re trying your hand at gardening, incorporating Pantera into your playlist or other heavy music might make the experience more enjoyable, less stressful and more beneficial in the long run.
