LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – FOX5 continues to follow the saga of the Somerset Park community.
Tuesday night, FOX5 shared accounts from homeowners desperate for help after being told by the City of Henderson they would have to leave their homes in two weeks if the community’s leaking pipes weren’t fixed. Wednesday, two local representatives went door-to-door to meet with neighbors at the townhomes and Wednesday night they all came together to discuss solutions.
“How many of you are here from Somerset,” questioned Carrie Cox, Henderson City Councilwoman for Ward 3 at the beginning of the meeting at Whitney Ranch Rec Center that was supposed to be about road projects. Nearly every hand in the room shot up.
“What can the city do to help all of us? This is an 85 unit complex with 85 families,” one resident asked. These residents of Somerset Park near Pabco and Sunset in Henderson got notices on their doors Monday. Now the clock is ticking to fix major water issues or move out by September 10th.
The City of Henderson says their water distribution system has created multiple sink holes and is “a danger to life, health, and safety” and is threatening to turn the water off. Without water and pressure to hydrants residents would be forced to leave.
The current HOA management company tells the city they don’t have money to make repairs. “Assemblywoman Danielle Gallant called me yesterday. I was actually in Phoenix, Arizona and she was supposed to be going to Reno so we both flew in quickly to be here today,” Cox revealed. Cox and Henderson area Assemblywoman Danielle Gallant, who owns one unit and managers three others in the complex, tried to calm residents’ fears of being forced out. “We will get a plan together, but we have to create a budget and we have to get out of this hole,” contended Gallant. Though it could cost more than a million dollars to fix the pipes, both local reps are optimistic a plan can quickly be set in place in the next week. “We are exploring some options and one of the ones that I am pursuing aggressively right now is a vendor that is willing to finance fixing the plumbing,” shared Gallant.
“Danielle and I met with a couple of the vendors and discussed what could be done to see if we could get an outside company to handle the situation and carry the loan,” Cox added.
FOX5 reached out to the current HOA management company, Camco, both Tuesday night and Wednesday to ask about this situation. So far, we have not heard back.
Again, residents tell us after COVID, another property management company, Heritage Management, was in place.
FOX5 has been digging into them, looking into claims of embezzlement. Their website no longer works and we found an open complaint against them filed with the BBB.
We will continue to follow this developing story and bring you updates as we get them.
There will also be another meeting Thursday at the North Henderson Community Police Station near the townhomes. That goes from 1pm to 5:30pm. Again, those spearheading the effort to keep people in their homes say it may take several days to finalize a solution and they may not be able to offer answers until then.
