The Peacock Room first “Threads of Time Detroit Vintage Market” on Feb. 22.

Threads of Time Vintage Market debuts Feb. 22

“The Peacock Room is like stepping back in time to the glitzy days of Old Hudson’s and downtown,” according to the Fisher Building shop’s website and a press release about its latest special event. So it’s not surprising that the store, which features clothing and other merchandise inspired by the 1920s to 1960s, is hosting its first “Threads of Time Detroit Vintage Market” from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Feb. 22. “These are my hand-picked favorite vintage and antique dealers in Metro Detroit all under one roof,” says Peacock Room owner Rachel Lutz, who says the event will be in front of the store on the iconic Fisher Building’s north end and will have goods that include both fashion and housewares. Lutz calls her own aesthetic “Mid-century Modern, Moroccan, Bohemian, Victorian” and promises that “no matter your style, there will be something for everyone.”   Visit shoppeacockroom.com.

The iconic Girard Flower Table, an archival design by Alexander Girard, will be available to North American customers for the first time through Herman Miller.

Girard Flower Table Blooms anew through Herman Miller

Zeeland-based Herman Miller recently announced that the iconic Girard Flower Table, an archival design by Alexander Girard, will be available to North American customers for the first time through Herman Miller. As the founding director of Herman Miller’s textile division in 1952, Girard spent a lot of time in Metro Detroit and Michigan and his influence became synonymous with iconic mid-century modern design throughout his two decades of work. He originally created the table as a centerpiece for a conversation pit at the renowned Miller House in Columbus, Indiana, which he designed in collaboration with architect Eero Saarinen. The table offers a contemporary interpretation of a blooming flower, featuring a round metal tabletop with scalloped edges and a petal-shaped pattern that forms the base. Available in both small ($995) and large ($1,295) sizes, as well as Anthracite and Vivid Red colorways, the versatile design allows it to be arranged together or separately. Made of powder-coated steel, it’s suitable for use both indoors and out. Visit hermanmiller.com.
