From joining and partnering with his brother’s flooring company in Vicenza, Italy, at the age of 18 to winning the 2023 Red Dot: Best of the Best. The jury of the renowned competitions platform that celebrates excellence in design, recognized Giovanni Barbieri’s project and his desire to elevate the interiors with natural, meticulously crafted floors. Notably, Blooming combines the benefits of prefabricated parquet flooring with the high-quality appearance of custom-made products.

‘My philosophy is to enhance and preserve the power of Italian craftsmanship, creating something in the present for the long term future. It is, I believe, extremely important to maintain the tradition alive, especially the quality of the excellent craftsmanship we have in Italy, moreover in the Northeast where I live. It is my biggest satisfaction to win an award like this one in cooperation with my family factory,’ begins Giovanni Barbieri.

Blooming embraces a fusion of sophisticated shapes that are carefully coordinated, complementing the simplicity and user-friendly nature of the installation process. It features a multi-layered parquet comprising two bonded sheets of wood produced by Flooma: a durable top layer of high-quality oak and a sturdy birch plywood substrate. The wood is securely glued to ensure long-term resilience and can be effortlessly put together, even when underfloor heating is involved. With a range of twelve distinctive wood colors and four surface finishes to choose from, individuals have a plethora of options to to suit their preferences.

‘We are extremely happy that we created something so unique and revolutionary in this sector. The Blooming wood is a result of a long-time research. It is a system that puts together the pattern in a very simple way and is installed effortlessly with almost always different shapes involved. Before, this was only possible with custom-made projects,’ continues the creator.

By combining different shades of oak, one can achieve either a bold and rhythmic effect or a more uniform appearance, depending on personal taste and style. The floral pattern disguises the fact that it is based on only three standard shapes. As a result, when randomly installed, it generates a one-of-a-kind design that fills the room with a vibrant and dynamic ambiance, making it come alive.

‘We can create, in the present, a new niche in the market. A skillful, excellent quality of an artisan product with a great combination of design and technology are the main characteristics of our work. Our expectation is that our projects have a long life in the future and are not just trends that go out of fashion a few seasons later. Of course, to receive a Red Dot Award is a huge satisfaction, because it means that all our sacrifices, investments and hard work are on the right track,’ finalizes Giovanni Barbieri.
