Lick has unveiled its 2025 paint colour palette that is simultaneously ‘new’ and ‘nostalgic’.
Incorporating cosy, comforting colours with a contemporary twist, the eight-colour palette is all about taking a trip down memory lane and giving a fresh and reimagined take on colours you might have grown up with.
Playing into that nostalgic feeling of cosiness, the palette consists of earthy and warm tones, like taupe, brown, orange, red and pink – as well as rich purple, a cool-mid blue and a velvety black.
According to Lick’s consumer data, the interest in purple and brown paint shades in the home is growing. There’s also continued demand for pinks – which the brand hails as a ‘new neutral’, offering a warmer and on-trend alternative to harsher whites and overdone greys.
Tash Bradley, Director of Interior Design and Colour Psychologist at Lick, says: “Purple and Brown is a timeless combination which is so complimentary due to these hues’ shared richness and depth of colour, supported by deep red undertones. This pairing works particularly well in a bedroom scheme, with Brown 02 offering grounding and assuring qualities and Purple 03 adding warmth and a touch of luxury.”
While the earthy brown, burnt orange, brownish red and plum purple included in the 2025 palette all have a very 1970s feel, the brand says it has given them a reimagined, modern twist by using heavy black pigment – which tones down the saturation and makes the colours feel richer and cosier.
Nevertheless, the power of colour triggering childhood memories, family gatherings and treasured traditions is a key theme of the palette.
Tash adds: “Colours that feel nostalgic can bring both comfort and emotional stability, and in the last year this new wave of nostalgia has been particularly evident in the resurgence of cosy, retro colour palettes inspired by past decades, specifically the 1970s.
“This powerful connection between colour and memory is at the heart of Lick’s 2025 Colour Palette. We’ve reimagined these nostalgic colours for modern interiors, creating a palette that’s both emotionally resonant and surprisingly contemporary.”
Another perk of the palette is the fact that all the options complement each other – and can be used either in one room, or throughout the house – with so many great colour combinations to choose from.

Tash’s top tips on how to style Lick’s 2025 Colour Palette:
Colour drenching
Tash says: “A great way to use the darker, bolder colours in our palette is by colour drenching an entire room in them. This will tone down the intensity of the colour as there is less contrast, creating spaces that feel surprisingly calm. Take your signature colour and paint everything from your walls to your woodwork in it. Think skirting boards, radiators, doors, window frames, picture rails and ceilings.”
Tonal
Tash says the 2025 Colour Palette is an analogous scheme, which means that all of the colours sit next to each other on the colour wheel and are incredibly compatible when used together.
She adds: “If you would prefer to use one of the more neutral hues on your walls and woodwork, you can even take various tints or shades of your chosen colour onto your furniture and upholstery to create a monochromatic, tonal interior scheme.”
Stick to Eight
“When embarking on a new project or redecorating your entire home, I always recommend to stick with a palette of eight colours that truly make your heart sing,” Tash explains.
“Eight colours will give you a lot of freedom as you can use different tones and variations of the same colour throughout, playing around with high contrast or more tonal schemes and still ensure that your home feels balanced and harmonious.”
